Well there’s nothing really fancy or interesting to say about this beer to begin with. This is a traditional style Brown Ale, and is released during the Spring season by Redhook. This beer started off as Mudslinger, and then for one year they had changed the name to Nut Brown. Mudslinger is back as the name of this beer, which i like better than Nut Brown, anyway.
My Branchline Brewing Co pint glass was used for this beer. It poured a rather dark brown with a thin off white foamy head, which reduced down to a thing ring layered on top of the beer.
My nose is met with traditional brown ale aromas. The smell is a bit sweet, brown sugar, caramel notes, and slightly nutty. Really nothing fancy, but if traditional is what you are looking for than these guys hit it spot on.
The taste of this beer follows the aroma. I can pick up caramel, brown sugar, nuttiness, almost bread-like flavors up front and throughout the bulk of the drink. At the end there are small hints of chocolate, and a slight dirt, earthy tone. Very well balanced in flavor, and a pleasurable drinking experience.
There is a bit of a bite on the throat from the carbonation here, making this beer rather crisp. The body is also light-medium. Personally, I would have liked to have seen a little thicker body on this, and a little less carbonation bite. Maybe a bit more creamy, or a silky like mouth feel would suit the flavors a lot more. But that’s just me. Some might really like this mouth feel better.
Overall, I will give this a thumbs up, and will drink this beer again for sure. This is just a simple beer, nothing fancy, no added exotic fruit, vegetables, spices or human fluid or anything. This is what it says it is, a Brown Ale. Don’t expect anything more!
Since the name of this beer is Mudslinger, not only do I imagine a good mud throwing war, I also associate this term with talking shit about someone. The song I chose for the Metal Connection is “Cyberwaste” by the band FEAR FACTORY, and is from their 2004 album, Archetype. The song features some good shit talking lyrics towards an ex member of the band at that point in their career. Perfect song for this Mudslinger.
Slinging Mud my whole life, BeerMetalDude!
