I was really wanting to save this beer, but in the heat of the moment, drinking with friends in the hotel room after day 1 of Texas Frightmare, this beer was opened As I’ve said before, even when I’m supposed to be on vacation, I am working. Oh well, this is a fun “job” anyway. I write about what I am drinking.
Using my Texas Frightmare pint glass, this beer poured a deep, opaque black color with a finger wide tan head, leaving little to no lacing. Looked very thick, and heavy.
Smells of chocolate, roasted malts, some coffee resemblance, and a nice alcohol burn in the nose. This is definitely a strong beer, just based off of the aroma. The Imperial is showing up and kicking ass!
Taste wise, it is exactly as expected, following the aroma. Sweet chocolate flavors come first and lingers all the way through to the aftertaste. I can also pick up the coffee flavors, the roasted malts, and of course the alcohol presence in the slight throat burn.
The body is definitely thick, and there is some carbonation bite. There is a slight creaminess to this beer as well. This is probably a one and done for most people, because after drinking this bottle, you will feel full. Time for a nap!
Overall, I really enjoyed this beer, as I do with all of the Brothers’ Reserve Series by Widmer Brothers. As these beers in this series are limited release, I recommend getting yourself a bottle when you see this on the shelf at your local craft beer store.
First thing that came to mind when finding a Metal Connection was to search for a stand out band from Ecuador since this beer is said to be brewed using Ecuadorian cocoa nibs. I was actually not sure of any band from this area, so I had to do a search. I found this Brutal Death Metal band named GASTRORREXIS who released an album through Sevared Records, who I am familiar with, so I thought I’ give them a shot. I was damn near dropped out of my chair with their brutality. It wouldn’t have surprised me if this band was from TX instead of Ecuador. Heavy, heavy, TXDM influences in their music for sure. OK, enough babbling, just check out the song I posted, and do some research on this band. Cheers!
Getting chocolate wasted, BeerMetalDude!
