Lone Pint Brewery from the small town of Magnolia, TX, just north of Houston has quickly become a drinker’s favorite little brewery. They produce one of the state’s most sought out beer, Yellow Rose IPA. I am fan of this beer, but I also quickly became a fan of their other offerings including their English Brown Ale known as Gentleman’s Relish. The word Relish really throws a lot of people off, as they don’t associate that word with a tasty beer. The weirdest part is that Lone Pint named this great beer after an English snack, which is an anchovy paste that is typically eaten on toast. Sounds delicious, huh?

The label at is pretty bad ass. It features a drawing of a man with a large handlebar mustache in a Revolutionary War British soldier outfit. He is wearing an old American flag on his uniform from this time period though. He is also holding a barrel cask of beer with a British flag on it with a large USA stamp over it. This works with their label description of this beer.

Our Brown Ale gives a nod to the Northern English Brown style. However, since defeating the English in 1783, it is analogistic that the American version be stronger to reflect on England’s vanquishment.

I appropriately used a Lone Pint Brewery English Pub-style glass for this session. The beer poured a thick, murky reddish-brown color with the initial pour giving it a large 1-inch khaki colored foamy head. The retention on the head was moderate as a thin layer atop the beer, most of the way down, leaving small webs of lacing down the glass.

The aroma is big and bold. Heavy sweet caramel, hazelnut, pecans, heavy whipping cream, toffee, some light chocolate, and raisin bran muffins. Some earthy and floral greenery hops are present. The sweet caramel, toffee, and light chocolate linger a bit in the nose.

The taste is like the nose. Heavy sweet caramel, and toffee up front, followed closely by flavors of hazelnut, pecans, some light chocolate, sweet heavy whipping cream, earthy and floral greenery hops, finished with a taste of raisin bran muffins. The caramel, toffee, and chocolate are strong in the aftertaste.

The body is thick and heavy, with a slick and smooth mouthfeel. Not much of a carbonation bite. The finish is mouth coating at first with a dry cocoa powdery finish.

Overall, as I said before I found some real gems brewed by Lone Pint Brewery besides their very popular Yellow Rose IPA. I am a huge fan of the English Brown Ale, and Lone Pint really hit a home run with this beer here. As I stated before though, on a Nitro tape, this beer is even more excellent. I could drink this all day, even though I would feel full, since this one is a heavy beer. Please seek this beer out either on tap or in bottle. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

Metal Connection: Only one band came to mind for this Metal Connection, Spain’s horror masters, Gruesome Stuff Relish. This is the second time I have used this band here on the site. The first time was with Brewfist Italian Ales Spaghetti Western, and G.S.R’s “Spaghetti Terror (is Pretty Cool).” These guys are definitely one of my favorite Death Metal/Grindcore bands around. Most, if not all their songs are very catchy tunes chock full of gore, horror, zombies, and the like. In 2013, they released their 3rd full length album, Sempiternal Death Grind on F.D.A. Rekotz. This album is near 40 minutes of gruesome Death/Grind, including a song called “Gruesome Stuff Relish,” which is the Metal Connection here for this beer. A simply written, catchy tune which the lyrics are actually about the band itself. You have to love a band that can write a song about themselves. Here are the lyrics….
