When Metal heads make beer, they make good beer! Well, most of the time that is. That is the case with Copperhead Brewery from Conroe, TX. Brewer, Seth Earnest has a winning record when it comes to beers I enjoy. Here we have Copperhead White, their take on a witbier. Not my favorite style, but I still do enjoy them. Let’s see my thoughts on this beer.
Before I get into the beer itself, let’s talk about the amazing artwork, which is yet again drawn by Helen Hebenton of Uncanny Designs. So glad that Copperhead Brewery decided to use such a talented artist for their labels. She has done such an amazing job on each and every one of their beers. For someone like me, this really helps me buy into a beer. Luckily, the beer is good! This one features a sick looking bright orange snake weaving it’s way through an orange tree with it’s tongue wrapped all around an orange. Very nicely done!
For this session, I used a regular shaker pint glass from Beer Zombies. Copperhead White appeared a cloudy bright yellow color topped with a 1.25 inch white foamy head. Great retention with soapy spotty lacing down the glass.
The aroma was pure orange peel which was strong and dominant. This was followed by some coriander spice, lemon, honey, and wheat. Orange peel and coriander spice linger at the end.
Light flavors hit the palate first, like wheat, honey, and some lemon. The orange peel and coriander spice make up the body of this beer, and dominates the taste buds. The orange peel, coriander spice and lemon make up the aftertaste.
The body was light, with a spicy astringent mouthfeel and had a dry and spicy finish. Moderate carbonation throughout.
Overall, I would say this was a mighty fine beer, and will make it’s way back into my fridge, then belly from time to time. I am a fan of Witbiers. I know they’re not for everyone, but I think you should give this one a chance. As I’ve said before, I am fan of everything Copperhead so far. I really hope they keep up this winning steak with me.
Metal Connection: in 1991, a Blackened Death Metal band was formed in The Netherlands named God Dethroned. It wasn’t until the band’s 3rd full length album, Bloody Blasphemy that I discovered them. I was hooked, and a fan ever since. Every single one of their albums has hits. There’s always a few catchy tunes, that get played in rotation almost daily. The band’s 6th full length, 2004’s The Lair of the White Worm produced this beer’s Metal Connection. In fact, it’s the title track from this album that pairs with Copperhead White. If you have never heard of God Dethroned, then this is a perfect first encounter. This song fucking slays! It’s so catchy, fast, heavy, and can cause some serious neck breaking. Click the link and see what I mean, but don’t forget to crack open a Copperhead White first! Cheers, bitches!
