22-AppleSeltzer-WMAh yes, the Seltzer, or should I say Hard or Spiked Seltzer. A very popular alcoholic drink that has shown it’s ugly head from out of the shadows as of late. It seems like every company is making a Seltzer drink. What is it, some of you may be asking (if you have lived under a rock lately)? Well it’s alcoholic bubbly carbonated water, and with the addition of fruit, it makes it a very easy drink to slam a few cans and get a very good buzz from. I am not a huge fan of hard seltzers, as like with Metal, the tsunami wave of hard seltzers and the annoying fucking fans remind me of when Deathcore came into the picture. Yeah yeah, I’m old, and hate new things at times, but it’s not without reason. Most new shit sucks. Plain and simple. Hahaha!

In early 2020, Austin Eastciders decided to dive right into the Hard Seltzer market with a variety pack which included black cherry, peach and this one, apple. My girlfriend bought the variety pack and gave me a can of each to taste. I did one better and decided to include a review here on the site.

Appearance: Pours a Clear bright golden color, like a white wine, similar to Moscato. It started with a small fizzy bubbly head. Of course, that did not last throughout this session, but that was expected.

Aroma: apple juice, vinous and that’s pretty much it really. Imagine a watered down apple juice with a hint of sweet white wine that lingers in the nose after each whiff.

Taste: Completely picking up on apple juice, white wine, slightly watered down and muted apple soda. After each sip with a hard exhale, strong taste on white wine. The taste of watered down and muted apple soda lingers after each sip.

Body/Mouthfeel: Very thin, spritzy, yet a bit smooth, and a bit dry on the finish.

Overall: I will say that I am pretty impressed by this Seltzer. As I said, I am not a huge fan of these types of drinks, but I am a fan of apple flavored drinks. It’s really one of my favorite flavors. So with that said, Austin Eastciders really hit a home run with this Seltzer. It was so flavorful, and very easy to drink. I could see myself drinking a can of this to catch a quick buzz, or having a can or two while outside somewhere in our hot Summer months here in San Antonio. The way I rate my reviews is if the drink offers the flavors as promised by the makers, then I will rate it high. Of course I also put into consideration my actual liking of the drink I review. Apple Spiked Seltzer is a solid 5 out of 5. Alright, let’s get white girl wasted! Woo Hoo!

uncle-acid-and-the-deadbeats-mind-controlMetal Connection: What do you know, I found a Metal song with the word “apple” in the title. I found a few, actually. I did have to sit through  few seconds of shitty songs until I ran across this gem. Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats released a song called “Poison Apple in 2013. The song was first released as a single 7” record through Rise Above Records before it was included on the band’s 3rd full length album, Mind Control, also released through the same label. This psychedelic Doom Metal band formed in 2009 in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England. Their main man, Uncle Acid, real name Kevin Starrs is the main and only remaining original member in the band to this day. he has been their vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist. The other positions in the band has had a rotating door so there has been a few different drummers, bassists, and rhythm guitarists in the line-up. I mean they are the Deadbeats with Uncle Acid right in the name of the band. I have been a fan of this band throughout their career. The album Mind Control is a good one. This is the perfect background music to get wasted to. Check out the video below for our Metal Connection song. Cheers!
