Montana…. Hmmmm, what is good about Montana. let me Google this shit real quick. Be right back………. Well nothing that sparked my interest. Big Sky Brewing Company is from Montana, and will probably be the only thing that even draws me towards that state. I’m sure I will fit in real well if I ever visited this brewery! Powder Hound Winter Ale is the fourth beer I’ve had from Big Sky, and so far I have enjoyed all the beers so far.

Poured into a pint glass, and this beer looked amazing. The beer is a bright hazy orange with a bright white head that was about a finger width that did go down to a small ring on top that left very nice soapy lacing down the glass. As I was photographing this beer, all I kept thinking to myself was, “God damn, this picture come out perfect so I can start drinking this shit!”

Aroma is awesome! I could smell this beer all day…oh wait, I have to drink it. Damn! Sweet caramel malts followed by a floral and heavy citrus smells from the hops. Very pleasing, as this is one of my favorite smells in a beer.

Taste is a bit of a mix up here. This beer wants to showcase the malts and hops at the same time, so what we get here is a citrus and caramel mix. Imagine a brown sugar caramel coated orange slice. Mmmmmmm. I just made myself hungry a little. In seriousness, the hop character is definitely present here upfront, with a slight toffee or caramel background. The Body is medium and has a little bitter bite. Leaves a sweet fruity spice aftertaste.

In my opinion, this beer is very similar to an IPA, but it is characterized as an American Amber/Red Ale. Overall due to the closeness to the IPA, I do rank this one with a 4 Skull rating cause after all, this is my site, and I really enjoy this beer!

Well, here we are with a “Winter beer”, so what better kind of music to link this to besides Black Metal! Since I believe this is an IPA disguised as an Amber Ale, I went with the band IMPERIAL CRYSTALLINE ENTOMBMENT a.k.a. I.C.E. since they wear masks to hide their identity. I went with their song “Astral Frost Invocation” from their debut and only album, Apocalyptic End in White. WE ARE FUCKING ICE!!!!!!!

Chillin with my beer and my black metal, BeerMetalDude!
